Neuromuscular Therapy

This is a scientifically-based proven and highly effective approach to relieving pain in the body.  At the core of this work is a methodology for identifying the root causes of pain in the body.

By utilizing soft tissue release techniques, it is possible to restore proper alignment and biomechanics to the body, producing long-term relief from pain.

Neuromuscular Therapy is useful in treating a wide range of soft tissue complaints including:

  • Hip, knee and ankle pain
  • Runner's knee
  • Plantar fasciitis, hammer toes, bunions
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Tennis elbow, golfer's elbow
  • Back and neck pain
  • Headaches
  • TMJ disorder
  • Whiplash
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome

Craniosacral Therapy

Ever wonder why a few days after leaving your massage appointment, the same issue (ankle problem, sore shoulder, headache, etc.) comes back?  There may be something governing or holding that pain pattern in place.  Craniosacral Therapy attempts to remove that governing hold on the body by freeing up restrictions in the bones of the cranium (both the skull and the facial bones).  This work is usually incredibly relaxing...many clients fall into a light sleep and may even snore!  It is also different from many massage modalities as it can be done fully clothed.  It can feel like a deep head or scalp massage.

In addition to being relaxing, there are other significant benefits. The work helps to reset the body's muscular system to work better. Restriction in joints are freed up so joints can work as they're supposed to, which in turn allows the muscles to work as they're designed.  This work can be very effective for endurance athletes who want to improve their performance.

If additional bodywork (NMT, Sports, etc.) is added onto the session, the "problem" areas are resolved much quicker than if no Craniosacral work was done.  In addition to the immediate results, Craniosacral work will lead to longer lasting effects for the client.

Some of the issues that can be addressed by Craniosacral Therapy include:

  • Migraines and other headache pain
  • Neck and back pain
  • Sinus congestion
  • Muscle pain and restrictions that can hinder optimal performance
  • TMJ disorder
  • Ear congestion

Active Isolated Stretching Strengthening and (AIS)

AIS is a method of stretching where the target muscle is first isolated.  The antagonist (or opposite) muscle is contracted by the active client while a simultaneous stretch is done for no more than 2.0 seconds.

Over the last several decades most stretching has moved from a dynamic (bouncing) stretch, to a static stretch that is held for 60 seconds or longer.  Research has shown that a static stretch over 2.0 seconds triggers a protective stretch reflex to further contract or tighten that muscle, which is the opposite of what we want to accomplish.  With AIS, the target or isolated muscle stays relaxed while the antagonist muscle is contracting (reciprocal inhibition).  This allows the isolated muscle to lengthen without trauma.

AIS helps improve circulation and increase the elasticity of muscle joints and fascia.  The benefits gained by regular use of AIS techniques help restore range of motion, rehabilitate and prevent injuries.

This method of stretching is great for athletes, kids, elderly, those looking to prevent or rehabilitate an injury...really anyone who is looking to get more out of their daily lives!

Chair Massage
Many office workers have pain symptoms including a headache, stiff neck, tight shoulders, and an aching back.  Tight muscles can be caused by stress and sitting at a desk all day hunched over a PC.  The results can lead to decreased energy and mental fogginess.

A chair massage can provide a much needed break - both physically and emotionally - for the office worker.  Sitting in a massage chair can alleviate strain on the back, neck and shoulders and provides a gentle break for eyes that are typically glued to a computer screen.  Even 15 minutes in a massage chair can help increase circulation and revive energy levels leaving the employee more relaxed, energized and productive.

If your company is interested in offering a chair massage event for your employees, please contact me to set up a day and time.
